Adopt a Cemetery!
In 2015 FODŻ began its "Adopt a Cemetery" program. Under this program descendants worldwide were encouraged to take a personal interest in their ancestral cemetery and spearhead projects to protect and restore their cemetery of concern. We have followed this model since our founding in 2016.
We seek to partner with descendants who take an abiding interest in their ancestral cemetery and work to rally support for its care. One-by-one we have partnered over the past nine years with approximately 30 descendants in the preservation of their personal heritage.

In July 2026 we will partner again with JewishGen.org for the Greenspan L'Dor V'Dor Legacy Program: an amazing learning, traveling, and cemetery restoration experience in Poland.
This heavily-subsidized student trip is a powerful introduction to the Jewish history of Poland and the mitzvah of protecting ancestral cemeteries! What are the benefits of our trips? Read a wonderful article about our 2022 Fellowship Trip by Victoria Dozer, one of our JewishGen Fellows.

Touring the Jewish history of Poland and spending a couple days working on cleaning a Jewish cemetery is a wonderful way to learn the experience the vital meaning of 800 years of Jewish life in Poland and to work to build a better future following the terrible pain of the 20th century.
A group who traveled with us previously prepared this powerful video drawing from their own experience. In this film Beth Wortzel has written: "After a life-altering trip to Poland in the summer of 2023, several of the others I traveled with and I wanted to give back to the wonderful organizations that had sponsored this journey of discovery into what remains of the once thriving Jewish communities in Poland. This video is the outcome. In it we hope to capture the essence of what moved us to want to do whatever we could to help preserve the now decimated remains of our Jewish heritage."
